FAQ
What exactly is a Climate Hub?
A Climate Hub is a local group of volunteers advancing Climate Reality’s mission in their city. Hubs are self-governing, open to both trained Climate Reality Leaders and new activists, and focus on community-driven climate action.
Do I need to be a trained Climate Reality Leader to join a Hub?
No – anyone passionate about climate action can participate. Only Hub Leads and Co-Leads must be trained Climate Reality Leaders; all other members can join regardless of previous experience. This ensures inclusivity and community growth.
How do Hubs work together if there are several in one country?
Hubs in the same country are encouraged to collaborate on national campaigns, shared priorities, translations, and events. Regional Organizers help connect Hubs across borders and support coordination where needed.
What support do Hubs receive from Climate Reality?
Hubs receive:
- A Climate Hub Starter Pack with toolkits, guidance, and resources
- Regular leadership calls, onboarding, and training (based on Branch capacity)
- Ongoing support from Regional Organizers
- Opportunities to collaborate with other Hubs across Europe
What can a Climate Hub do?
Activities vary, but may include:
- Community engagement and education
- Local advocacy with city officials
- Campaigns on clean energy, fossil-free finance, or climate justice
- Partnerships with local NGOs, youth groups, or community initiatives
- Leadership building and trainings
How much time does participating in a Hub require?
Time commitment is flexible. Some members join occasional meetings or events; others take on leadership roles or coordinate projects. For starting a new Hub, we recommend at least two trained Co-Leads and a small founding team to share responsibilities.
How can I start a Climate Hub and what does the application process look like?
To start a Hub, you need:
- A Hub Leader, Co-Leader (both Climate Reality Leaders), and at least two additional members
- Completion of the online Hub application
- Branch review and approval
- Signing the Hub Agreement
- Participation in onboarding with your Regional Organizer
Can a Hub application be rejected?
Yes, if: a Hub already exists in that city; the application is incomplete or misleading; members did not consent; or there are documented issues concerning misconduct or violation of community values.
